Ferrall Is Digging the Start of the World Cup!!

The World Cup finally started in South Africa and of course South Africa got to open the Cup taking on Mexico.  I have to tell you, even though the first half seemed pretty dull and no score the crowd is as rowdy as anything you have ever seen in your life.  They blow those horns the entire time the game is being played on the pitch, they just don’t stop.  They’re singing, they’re blowing the horns, they’re dancing.  Meanwhile nobody’s scoring any goals, but it doesn’t affect the fans.  They’re just so excited and stoked and fired up to be there, I’ve never seen anything like it.  You have a game where nobody’s scoring but you would think it was overtime in the Stanley Cup Game 6 the way the crowd’s reacting and getting all fired up over every pass, every attempt, every chance, every rush.  Mexico was the favorite but I actually took South Africa in an upset figure the home nation would come out and get it done and kick off the World Cup in fashion and they finally got the first goal of the World Cup.  South Africa took a one-nothing lead in the second half as I’m sitting here and watching it right now.  It’s in the 76th minute so obviously when I taped this there’s still time left on the clock but I thought the second half was pretty intense.  There were some great opportunities for Mexico to tie it so far that I’ve seen and South Africa’s playing desperate not to blow the lead.  It looks pretty chilly there.  I noticed all the players were wearing jackets, like really thick jackets and it looked like they were trying stay warm.  I thought it would be hot down there but I guess it’s not.  It’s pretty crazy and cool to watch it and I got no problem with it.  I’m going to watch a lot of these games every day.  Why not?  It’s on now for a month.  Sirius XM will carry every game of the World Cup but have to have The Best of XM to get it.

Interleague play starts tonight, tons of games.  I think the rest of the month is basically interleague play in baseball and of course Stephen Strasburg pitches on Sunday so we’ll follow all those games tonight.  The legendary TR, my dad, is in studio.  He’s in for a five-day visit to see the grandkids and everything so it should be pretty chaotic tonight in the studio.  Geno Bisconte was great last night.

Oh, and I just saw it.  Mexico tied it up.  Mexico ties it up.  Unbelievable!  Marquez with the goal to tie it up in the 78th minute and Mexico gets the equalizer as I’m sitting here and their fans are going ballistic.  This is good stuff.  Soccer’s like hockey to me.  They’re running, they’re not skating 25, 30 miles an hour but it’s the same kind of offense, guys trying to set up, you can’t be off sides, you got to get into the zone, but a beautiful pass there to get into the zone and then just a nice one-timer and the goalie got burned inside his leg just inside the right post.  Just a great goal by Mexico’s Marquez to tie it up, this is awesome, I love it!

What else is going on this weekend?  Well there’s golf in Memphis, it’s the final tune-up for the US Open next week at Pebble Beach in California.  NASCAR Sprint Cup is Sunday in Michigan.  There’s great boxing this weekend at the Garden.  Ivan Calderon is fighting for his title against Jesus Irieb and Cory Spinks is fighting in Saint Louis this weekend against some bum and you got UFC 115 in Vancouver, British Columbia on Saturday night with The Ice Man taking on Rich Franklin so it should be awesome!

Go to ScottBeatstheMan.com for all my World Cup, NBA finals, and baseball interleague picks this weekend.  Of course the Lakers got beat last night in Game 4.  I told you the Celtics would cover and they did and they also won on the money line.  Now the series is tied up at 2 games a-piece, turning it into a best of 3, so it’s going to be great to watch now.  Game 5 is Sunday in Boston and then Tuesday is Game 6 in Los Angeles.
