Rest in Peace George Steinbrenner
Tuesday was an unbelievable day with the passing of George Steinbrenner at 80, an icon in the sports world, and really in the business world, in the entertainment world, and everything else. He was, in my opinion, the biggest owner sports has ever seen, and definitely the most dynamic with his handling of the Yankees to seven world championships and constantly being on the back page of all the New York Papers. There will never be another one like him. You can talk about any owner you want, Al Davis, the O’Malleys, Art Rooney Sr. in Pittsburgh, even Jerry Jones, none of them can hold a candle to George Steinbrenner. His hirings and firings of Billy Martin as well as another 19 managers, the stories were just endless. It was great having the Former PR guy Rick Cerrone on last night as well as Peter Golenbock, the author that’s written many books on the Yankees, including the Bronx is Burning, Digger Phelps talking about his relationship with Steinbrenner and how he knew him, just phenomenal guests. It was just a great show. But it’s really a sad day in New York and you just can’t even fathom that on the day of baseball’s biggest showcase, the All-Star game, he dies and he’s bigger news that the game itself, obviously. Even in death he managed to steal the headlines. I can’t imagine what it’s going to be like today in New York with the newspapers. They’ll be completely devoted to him and it was just huge. First the passing of Bob Sheppard at 99 years old and now Steinbrenner dies two days later. It makes you wonder who’s next, doesn’t it?
We have a huge show tonight. Geno Bisconte is stopping by and we’re going to do a simulcast again with Dino Costa on Mad Dog Radio. Jon Stulberg of Fanball.com is on to talk second half baseball and Brian Katrek of PGA Tour Radio on XM is on to talk about the British Open. We’ll be ragging on Sirius XM’s Howard 101.
I’ll see you tonight, 8PM Eastern (5PM West) on Sirius XM’s Howard 101. Don’t forget to follow me on Facebook at facebook.com/ScottFerrall79. Hit up this is FerrallRadio.com and don’t forget ChurchofFerrall.com. If you want to lose weight you have to get on The Lean from Bill Romanowski. Just click the Nutrition 53 banner on the site and get Romo’s Lean and the Multi-One Vitamins. It’s all-purpose, kick ass stuff, I use both and they work, believe me! If you need a suit, go to Joseph’s Custom Clothier and ask for Joey Wendt. If you’ve got back pain, neck pain, spine pain, any kind of pain, go to The Spine & Health Center of Montvale, New Jersey, and check out Dr. Pete or Dr. Kelly and they’ll set you straight.
It will never be the same again in New York at Yankee Stadium or at Legends Field in Tampa without George M. Steinbrenner III. I love how he said he always took winning very seriously. He said that breathing was the most important thing in his life and winning was second. What a classic line. Anyway, I’ll see you tonight at 8PM East (5PM West) on Howard 101. Have a great day!!
